Kame Terrace
Kame Terrace is a short dead-end street, about 345 feet long, in East Billerica. It leaves the south side of Rolling Hill Road, the street of the Rolling Ridge Heights subdivision that runs west from Allen Road, and ends at a cul-de-sac. It was laid out on "Modified Subdivision Plan of Land in Billerica, Mass., Rolling Ridge Heights, Lot Layout Plan," dated March 12, 1998, drawn by Noonan and McDowell, Inc. of 25 Bridge Street, Billerica, for R and R Realty Trust of 430 River Road, Andover. The plan showed Kame Terrace 50 feet wide, with lots 11, 12A and 12B of about 40,000 to 58,000 square feet around it, on land that lay partly in Land Court case 8039. The planning board approved it on June 22, 1998, and it was recorded on July 30, 1998 (Plan Book 197, Plan 126); the registered part is on Land Court Plan 8039-G of May 1998.
Patch Development sold the first house in June 1999, and the three houses on the street date from 1999. The annual spring town meeting of 2011, at its sixth session on May 19, 2011, accepted "Kame Terrace for its entire length within the Rolling Ridge Heights Subdivision" as a public way under Article 34, together with Rolling Hill Road, on the article of the planning board. A kame is a mound of sand and gravel left by a melting glacier, but the plan does not explain the name, and the reason for its choice was not found.
